Hey Flocabbers,

I just wanted to encourage you all to stand by your game. The proof is in the pudding:) I hate to say it, but anyone who knows anything about Tucker Carlson should realize he is a neo- conservative, opinionated such-and-such. I am sorry that he has made a victim of such a great program. I have been using rap music to reach minds for 10 plus years (7 as an educator), and I am living proof that rap music can help produce an articulate vocabulary and foster formal language development. Ebonics or AAE is actually an excellent example of language evolution. I am sure Tucker can do a great job of doing what he does best. Like any critic he sits on the sidelines and criticizes all the people who are actually furthering our society through honest efforts. In the words of the youth culture. DUDE BE HATIN'! Keep on doing what you do:)

P.S. I wouldn't bother posting anything to his blog short of a very convincing and well written essay on the development of language, and the importance of properly engaging students. Even then it is like arguing with a rock.

Efficacious education systems recognize the scientific artistry of the learning process and develop guidelines to direct instruction. Students' individuals needs determine their individual successes. Because of this, effective educational systems incorporate programs that are specific to their demographic needs; programs that are measurable, achievable, realistic/relevant and timelined. Maybe Mr. Carlson should research student-centered learning models like the Flocabulary program BEFORE forming an opinion!

I clicked on the link just to read the article because I was curious, but not intending to post a comment. After reading the blog I was so stunned and angry that I signed up for an account and then posted multiple comments. I just don't understand how people can be so ignorant.

This kind of thinking and criticism just makes me sick! If we are not teaching the orthodoxy of 19th century, reading, writing, and arithmetic we must be doing something wrong. As a teacher of more than 25 years I use every tool in my tool bag to get young people to connect with learning, to think, and to wrestle with who we are as a people, and where we are going as a global community.
